2/8i=?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Multiply BOTH numerator and denominator by i to get (2/8i)(i/i) = (2i)/(-8) = -i/4 Note: i*i = i^2 = -1

what is formular you use?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Basically I want the denominator to be a real number. So I want to get rid of that i term. To do that, I multiply by i (since i*i = i^2 = -1, which is real). I must do the same to the numerator as well. Hopefully that clears things up.
