Find the area of a square whose side is (3x + 2).
Ready to work together on this?
i dont really know what im doing or how to figure this out but i wil try
Awesome, works for me! Alright, I like to solve through examples. Let's make believe the question asked, "Find the area of a square whose side is 10". What would the answer be and how do you solve it?
Once you get me the answer to that easier question, we can answer your (slightly harder) question
if i even knew weher to start to solve what u asked i wouldnt be asking for help haha
Well, do you know how you normally find area of a square? If not, don't worry. I'll explain it.
lol no that might be the problem lets put it like this im a college grad but a 3rd grader probally has better math skills than me and i have a learning disabilty so i get confused and overwhelmed very easy
A=(3x + 2). ?
Don't worry! I'll explain it to you. :) When you're finding the area of a square, you always multiply the length by the height. So... in my example, if a square has a side of 10, that means every side is 10 (because all four sides of a square are the same). So... 10 time 10 = 100.
Now, for your question, tell me what each side of the square is equal to. (Hint: It won't be a real number)
i understand that u multiply te length by the height but beyound that im lost when u starting putting letters in pellet idk how to figure it out thanks for trying to help
Don't worry, that shows that you understand what you have to do. But I just want to double check that you know what the length is. Could you just tell me what the length is? Just take an educated guess at what it'd be.
idk again thanks for trying to help ill just guess on my answer
don't do that
i dont get it and im not gonna learn the crap no matter how many times someone trys to explain it math is just one of those things where im a lost cause haha thanks for trying to help tho im to confused tho right now to even follow what anyone is saying
he's just trying to make you think about it. area=length*width a square has the same length as the width he already gave you the clues, I understand your frustration...do you understand now?
3*3+2
Just read the question one more time. And then you'll know what the side is. It tells you right in the question. :D
the side is the length hun
3*3=9
length*width, length=width, (3x+2)(3x+2) try it out and let us know what you get
Velvetangel: that's not correct, I'm afraid.
Civil's got it for you. :D Let us know if you don't understand how to multiply two polynomials.
the length times the height is 9..
thats what ive been saying all along i have no clue how to multiple that i know u timeds length by height but if i dont even know where to start thats kinda a problem
it's called the "FOIL" method you multiply the first terms together and then add them to the Outside terms multiplied together and add the inside terms multiplied together and add the last terms multiplied together
if the length is 3 then the height is 3 as well so it would be 3*3=9 on that part
but the length is (3x+2) angel NOT 3
Velvet: A single side is "3x+2". With all due respect, you're not doing it correctly.
so you are saying its like 3*3+2 to be 11?
dont even know what that is im telling u my math skills are like 3rd grade ive gotten thur all my other math classes becaudse someone did the pellet for me this is the last math class i need to be done with school im just trying to get a flipping c and ill be happy but i really dont understand any of it
some of the math i know how to work out but what confuses me is figuring out how math problems have to be worked out
do you know what (3x * 3x) is?
please enlighten on what the x is
a variable
kally's mom if you really don't know what 3x multiplied by 3x is I'll tell you the answer to your porblem
well i know 3.3 is 9 but idk where the x's play in
but how do you figure out the x
3x * 3x is 9x^2 ring a bell?
ok so the square root is 9 of the 3x right?
you don't have to angel it's an algebra problem
okay so u just basically bring the x over than with ur answer? but why is it squared
x*x is x^2, x*x*x is x^3 and so on....get it?
cause you are finding the square area of a square?
ok the x's are the square root correct?
depending on how many x's depends on the square root?
ok i get that i think
2x*x would be 2x^2, 4x*6x would be 24x^2
so do the foil method and let me know what you get if you don't understand that algebra won't be good for you. it's fundamental.
so would the answer to the problem be 9x^2-4?
angel look back at what I said about FOIL method and do it again....here you go, because I have to...your answer will be 9x^2 + 12x + 8
good luck with the c mommy
thanks
that is not an answer tot he question
9x^2+12x+4
sorry, 4 is correct
it's too late for me angel is correct mommy
its ok..
thank u everyone for the help i got 100 percent on that section
