true or false A plant variation is a completely different kind of plant that has been formed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope

OpenStudy (amistre64):

hmmm, this seems to be biology. I never know when a species becomes a new genre of viseversa

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would say false because a plant variation means that it is a branch from the same species. if you had two cats one had a big nose and the other had a small short one there both the same species just different variation

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

Not really, it depends what kind of variation you're talking about. If it's like a variation involving an allele or something then probably not. But if the variation maybe involved multiple genetic mutations then possibly. You could try sequencing its genome, doing a phylogenetic tree and determine how far it is from its original species

OpenStudy (anonymous):

False. If I recall correctly, you can't declare a new species between a parent and its child. You'd have to have a repeated history of the variations repeating before you could call it a new species. For example, when bumblebees evolved from honey bees (a random example, probably not true), there was never a time when a honeybee gave birth (or gave egg?) to a bumblebee.
