in a shell programming to find the sum of digits in a given number(eg. if 123 is input the result is 1+2+3=6) if i enter numbers starting with 0 it shows some wrong values why?? can anyone explain it clearly....??

What shell and how are you entering them?

OpenStudy (rsmith6559):

A leading zero on a number, especially in the older shells, means that the number is in octal, not decimal, the same as 0x would be hexadecimal.
