I Give medals to the person that helps me! Use polynomial long division to divide 4x^3 +x^2+17x-15 by -x^2-x-5

OpenStudy (gw2011):

The answer is: -4x+3

Can you show the work, please.

OpenStudy (gw2011):

You first divide 4x^3+x^2+17x-15 by -x^2. So, 4x^3 divided by -x^2=-4x. Now multiply (-x^2-x-5) by -4x^3 and you get: 4x^3+4x^2+20x and subtract this from 4x^3+x^2+17x-15 and you get: -3x^2-3x-15. Divide -x^2 into -3x^2 and you get 3. Now multiply (-x^2-x-5) by 3 and you get: -3x^2-3x-15. Now subtract (-3x^2-3x-15) from the above (-3x^2-3x-15) and there is no remainder and you are done.
