OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

which of the following acids has the lowest value of acid dissociation constant:a) CH3CHFCOOH b) FCH2CH2COOH c) BrCH2CH2COOH d) CH3CHBrCOOH Urgent please help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c is right answer

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

HOW ?

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

Please help me fast !!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think the right chain of option C is longer so it has the lowest dissociation ! i am not sure i think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it has to do with the position of the halogen. closer to the carboxyl group makes the molecule more polar (negative at that end of the molecule) and thus harder for the proton to leave (dissociate).

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

Well sorry Harikrat I give medals only to those who help me !!!! That's why you have received a medal ;)
