how do u factor an equation give me an example and walk me through so i can slove them please??
x^2+x-72 to factor an equation first u have to look at the highest power in the equation. for the equation i gave it would be 2 (from the x^2). This number tells u the highest amount factors there are(things being multiplieed together). Next look at the last number in this case the "-72" . now from the first part u kno there has to b 2 numbers multiplying together to make -72. so u look at 2 numbers that could multiply to equal 72 1*72 2*36 3*24 4*18 6*12 8*9 Now that u have done this look at the coefficient of the 2nd numeber(-x). In this case its -1. Now u take the numbers u found in the 2nd part and c which pair is able to add/subtract to the coefficient u just found. the only number able to b manipulated to form -1 is 8 & 9 9-8=-1 so u kno the zeros are 9 and -8 now u take x-zeros and multiply each 1 together. so its: (x-9)(x--8) (x-9)(x+8)
thats how u factor quadratics(highest power is 2). for equations higher than 2 the easiest way to factor it is to look for zeros take the equation x^3+6x^2+10x+6 now u kno from the highest power that at most there are 3 things multiplying against each other. now to look for zeros u look at positive and negative version of the factors of the last number(6) so it would be -1 and 1 -2 and 2 -3 and 3 and u plug them into the equation for x. if the solution becomes 0 then u kno it is a zero and then u do (x-zero1)(x-zero2)(x-zero3) tryplugging in the numbers to c which makes a 0 solution
