What is the difference between a zero of a function from the root of an equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good question.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a zero tends to mean the x intercepts; whereas a root ... well, its the same thing but comes from the study of quadratics and cubics and the radicals i believe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here's a wiki topic that mentions both in the first paragraph as the same thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_of_a_function

OpenStudy (amistre64):

id assume one is newtonian and the other is leibnizerish lol
