What on earth is the associative property of multiplication?

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

Associative Property: When three or more numbers are multiplied, the product is the same regardless of the grouping of the factors. For example (2 * 3) * 4 = 2 * (3 * 4)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

when we associate with people we hang out in a group; the associative laws simply states that it doesnt matter how you group the factors

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which show the property of bla and blah f (a times b)c = a(b times c) g a(b times c) = (a times c) times (a times c) h a times 1 = 1xa j (a times b) times c = (b times a) times c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like a(bc) = ab(c) = abc (Actually the order doesn't matter either if we are talking about numbers so you go = bac etc).

It all seems a bit pointless, I know (because u "know" this). But there are algebras (sets of rules) which are put together in such a way that 1 or more rules don't hold and the elements may be something other than numbers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. but what letter?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which letter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, based on all that info you just been given, I would have thought u could have picked that yourself. f.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

really i've on and off the comp.
