Multiply 9/14x2/15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

18/210

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3/28

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

\(\frac{9}{14} \cdot \frac{2}{15} = \frac{3 \cdot 3}{7 \cdot 2} \cdot \frac{2}{3\cdot 5} = \frac{3}{7 \cdot 35} = \frac{3}{35}\)

myininaya (myininaya):

i wonder why the latex isn't working for me is it working for you guys?

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

Well that failed. The trick to this problem is to cancel common factors in the numerator and denominator. 9/14 = (3*3)/(7*2) and 2/15 = 2/(3*5) When multiplying fractions, we multiply the numerators times the numerators and the denominators times the denominators, and cancel like factors wherever they appear: (3*3*2)/(7*2*3*5) Notice that we have a 3 and a 2 canceling which leaves us with: 3 / (7*5) which is just 3/35.
