I am trying to understand this problem. Start with a number, square it, subtract four, take the reciprocal. The output is a function. Which could be the domain of the function? I am fine up till the reciprocal. How do I take the reciprocal of x^2-4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(x) = 1/(x+2)*(x-2)

Ok, so I factor the polynomial and then the reciprocal is the inverse?

So based on that, my answer would be all real numbers except 2 and -2 because these numbers would create a division by zero error.

yes
