What are the coordinates of the vertex of the function below? Write your answer in the form (x,y). y-11=-(x-5)^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is standard vertex form: \[y-y_1 = a(x-x_1)^2\] Where the vertex will be \((x_1,y_1)\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what do you have for \((x_1,y_1)\) in this case?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-5.-11)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Very close! (5,11) note that the - are part of the form, not the value of the coordinates in the formula.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oo, thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh wait. I have a small error.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It doesn't affect this answer though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually I'm wrong. I don't have an error ;p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

phew, scared me for a second. lol thank you
