your calculator doesn't show it to the positive or negative, it has the E symbol. but it's to the negative

I don't mean to be rude, but I do know how my calculator works. And when you multiply 2 big numbers you get one huge number. In scientific notation "huge numbers" aren't multipled by 10^ to a negative, they are raised to a positive.

Take for instance the number 12345 would turn it into 1.2345 x 10^4 if you took 1.2345 x 10^-4 you would be getting .00012345.

I wasn't implying you don't know how your calculator works. I was simply stating the way I learned how to do scientific notation. All I was trying to do was to help the person who asked the question, not start a debate.
