How do I find the slope and y intercept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, let's do the intercept first. Now, here's a question: How do we find a point on the y axis? As in, is it (0,y) or (x,0)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

firstly to find the slope you will have to make y the subject of the formula which will be 3x+5y=-1 5y=-1-3x y= -1/5 - 3x/5 so now we know that our slope is -3/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Rewrite 5y = -3x -1 y = (-3/5)x -1/5 Slope -3/5 Intercept -1/5 Form y = mx + b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah oh well. Looks like they beat us to the answer. Heh.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

m - slope b - intercept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to find the y intercept we make x=0 and then we find the value of y 3(0)+5y=-1 5y=-1 y=-1/5 so the y intercept is (0,-1/5)
