OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solve for the given domain. Write the solution as a set of ordered pairs. y = 6 - 3x, domain {-1, 0, 1, 2, 3}.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

domain are your x values so you put them into the equation to get your y values and then you have your ordered pairs can you do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, easy stuff.

myininaya (myininaya):

how do you solve for something that is given? lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have to input -1 into the equation then solve for y. Then 0, then 1, ....etc.

myininaya (myininaya):

the first sentence makes no sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, there were two things that I did see... An equation with x, and a domain set....I knew that in order to find a solution set, I would have to use those inputs...

myininaya (myininaya):

right the second second makes sense i just don't understand how you would solve for something that is already given

myininaya (myininaya):

the second sentence*

myininaya (myininaya):

right but i guess you didn't read the first sentence it also says solve for the domain

myininaya (myininaya):

i know what the second sentence says that makes sense but the first sentence does not make any sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"solve for the domain" means that given the domain, find the range

myininaya (myininaya):

lol no it doesn't but okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh well, I'm sure my approach is correct though. There's no other way to do it.

myininaya (myininaya):

i love you hermolies

myininaya (myininaya):

hermoiles this is the way i would do it too i just want people to make sense when they asked their questions

myininaya (myininaya):

i know thats impossible

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But isn't that the reason why questions are asked? Maybe even the question itself doesn't make sense...causing confusion....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Questions themselves can be questions...A question in the question....

myininaya (myininaya):

but thats why i'm asking questions about her question because her question makes no sense and she still never answered any of my questions about her questions lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But myininaya, if there was a mistake in the question and you noticed it, you could have easily corrected it. After all, you are a guru.

myininaya (myininaya):

lol

myininaya (myininaya):

so i should be a mind reader by now is what you are saying?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

...I'm a guy... but yeah. Thanks for the help.

myininaya (myininaya):

i had a question about your question? why did you say solve for the given domain? does it say to do that? do you know you can't solve for something that is already given right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

myininaya, I am convinced that you do not understand what "solve for the given domain" means

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know, heres the multiple choice answers: A.{(-1, 7.5), (0, 6), (1, 4.5), (2, 3), (3, 1.5)} B.{(-1, 9), (0, 6), (1, 3), (2, 0), (3, -3)} C.{(-1, 10), (0, 6), (6, 3), (3, 3)} D.{(-1, 3), (0, 6), (1, 3), (2, 0), (3, -9)}

myininaya (myininaya):

solve for the given domain means solve for the domain lol

myininaya (myininaya):

given the domain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If that were the case, why would they have to say "given domain" obviously they're saying that the domain is given

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the math thing to do would be to use the x values they give you to determine appropriate y values to make ordered pairs out of

myininaya (myininaya):

lol right! i'm just so curious about that first sentence

myininaya (myininaya):

that first sentence makes no sense

OpenStudy (amistre64):

:) solve for the range given the domain perhaps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the answer is b

OpenStudy (amistre64):

b isnt an ordered pair lol

myininaya (myininaya):

that would make more sense amistre

myininaya (myininaya):

maybe she just forgot to type to word range

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A.{(-1, 7.5), (0, 6), (1, 4.5), (2, 3), (3, 1.5)} B.{(-1, 9), (0, 6), (1, 3), (2, 0), (3, -3)} C.{(-1, 10), (0, 6), (6, 3), (3, 3)} D.{(-1, 3), (0, 6), (1, 3), (2, 0), (3, -9)}

myininaya (myininaya):

oops sorry he*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was referring to the list of answer choices above amistre

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is B

myininaya (myininaya):

lol i love you guys

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i see (-1,10) as the first option tho

OpenStudy (amistre64):

of course, -3(-1) = 3 not 4 .. i added kinda lol

myininaya (myininaya):

yes b is right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If I were you myininaya, I would have said, "Did you mean Solve for the range given the domain?". That was all I would have said....just sayin

myininaya (myininaya):

lol ok hero

myininaya (myininaya):

i just thought it was interesting that it said solve for the given domain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But even with the word "range" missing, it still doesn't imply to solve for the domain.

myininaya (myininaya):

yes it does it says solve for something that is already given

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay Guru. I love you too.

myininaya (myininaya):

:)

myininaya (myininaya):

well me making trouble is over for today i need a break

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If that's how you interpreted it, how did you find that that answer was B?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay

myininaya (myininaya):

the second sentence

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmmmm, okay, I wouldn't have needed the second sentence.

myininaya (myininaya):

i would

myininaya (myininaya):

because as we already know the first sentence makes no sense lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We're not arguing are we? This is just friendly banter...

myininaya (myininaya):

hero, i'm just having fun even though what the person wrote was wrong, i know what they were looking for. i just want them to think about what they write and if it makes sense. and yes i could have at any time said do you mean solve for the range given the domain but instead i just wanted them to think about it and answered me

myininaya (myininaya):

i did give you a medal for this because you deserve one for trying to defend the person's question

myininaya (myininaya):

so yes this friendly talk on my end how about yours?

myininaya (myininaya):

friendly talk?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes :)

myininaya (myininaya):

:)
