If we observe a star over 6 months and obtain a parallax angle (p) for the star, how can we calculate the distance to the star? A. distance = p2 B. distance = 1/p C. distance = p-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B. Distance is 1/p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm

where p is the angle in arc seconds and the distance is in parsecs

This parallax angle is also referred to as a parallax shift. As Stan pointed out, it is measured in parsecs. (Hon Solo would have you believe it is a measure of time - but that is a different discussion)
