How to convert a fraction to a decimal? Like 13 6/7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Divide 7 into 6 or use a calculator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what would you do with the 13?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

put a point after it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 13.8 R 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, the whole number part will appear before the decimal, and the fractional part is the result of dividing the numerator by the denominator. e.g. \(6/7 = .\bar8\bar5\bar7\bar1\bar4\bar2\) 13 and 6/7 = 13.857142857142

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Have u got a calculator?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If u put 6 divided by 7 u get .857142857142 Put the 13 in front of that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i forgot to put some of the question Convert fraction to decimal (or mixed decimal and round to nearest hundredth)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, the first figure after the point is tenths and the second is hunderedths and so on.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So u are interested in the first 2 digits after the point. But there is a rule for rounding -- look at the digit next to the 5, if it is 5 or more then u change the 5 into a 6.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 13.857....becomes 13.86 to the nearest hundredth (also known as 2 decimal places because there are 2 places after the point).
