x+6= -5 2x-9y=-17

You'll want to use substitution to solve this since you pretty much have x= already.. Start by isolating x on the first equation by subtracting 6 from both sides.. you come up with x=-11 now just plug that into the next equation 2(-11)-9y=-17

OpenStudy (vijay):

x = -7.9 and y = 2 /15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=-5/9 x=-11

I'm not sure how vijay came up with that answer but you can plug those values in and they don't work, the answer is x=-11 and y=-5/9

okayy thank you
