OpenStudy (sheena):

what are the gravitational potentials at a point on the earth's surface due to (a) the earth (b) the sun?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

On a Earth surface if datum is earth's surface then zero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer above is for earth potential

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sun one I am noway near to it : (

OpenStudy (sheena):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe for the sun you can calculate GPE using the idea that \[U = -G(Mm)/(r)\] where -G is the gravitational constant, M is the mass of the Sun, m is the mass of the Earth, and r is the distance between the two.

OpenStudy (sheena):

ok...are u sure?
