put x = 0 and solve

\[-2y=12\] \[y=\frac{12}{-2}=-6\]

This is a concept which requires deductive reasoning. Both answers above are correct. I am going to take it from a different angle just in case you want some more clarification. The y-intercept is the place where the line crosses the y-axis, therefore, it is the place in which x = 0. So if we set x = 0, then we have: -3(0)-2y=12 0 - 2y = 12 y = 12/-2 y = -6 http://www.tutorsean.net
