Can someone solve: y= x^3 + 3x^2 - 9x +1? In class we use 5 steps: 1. y' 2. factor to get x 3. y'' 4. factor to get x 5. x = 0, y=0 Not sure what Im doing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[y' = 3x^2 + 6x - 9\]

OpenStudy (akshay_budhkar):

yes right

OpenStudy (akshay_budhkar):

but what is that you want us to do??????Peser

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(3x - 3)(x +3)

OpenStudy (akshay_budhkar):

why are we doing it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = 1 ,-3 maybe maxima and minima

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, it says maxima and minima

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y" = 6x +6 x=-1

OpenStudy (akshay_budhkar):

right... ishaan right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry, im in a 4 wk course, teach isnt very specific on a lot of things

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We have to graph this on our calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well you got maxima for the points 1 , -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maxima for -3 and minima for1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it says I need to find the intercepts as well?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok just solve by putting y=0 and x=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when x = 0we get y=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah! duh me. Thank you!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

similarly with x put y=0 and get x intercepts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u rule. thanks again. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha :D thanks
