Does this help? Pretend there is a fly that starts at tA and walks to F, then flies back to A and starts walking again. Now wait some time, yell "check!" and see where the fly is (if it's flying we ignore it). What's the chances it is between B and C? Well if B to C covers most of the distance between A to F, it will be big. if B to C is small, the chance will be small. So use the ratio of the distance B to C compared to the distance between A to F.
