I am trying to study Statistical Mechanics by myself. Which is the best introductory book on Statistical Mechanics?

I always liked the book "Statistical Physics" by F. Mandl (currently in 2nd edition), as it covers both classical and quantum systems. I havent read through many texts though, but I hear that "thermal Physics" by Charles Kittel is meant to be good (dealing mostly with the quantum regime) , but may not be suitable for introductory level, but you may want to check it out . You may be able to find "preview" copies to download or view through google search. I remember being dropped into statistical mechanics in my undergraduate days, and being very confused by it all. Good luck with your endeavours. I had a quick look on google books, and found this http://books.google.com/books?id=dO_4EdtD_G4C&printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&q&f=false which seems like it may be good. Check it out and see if it is suitable for you.
