just grab the numbers in front of the variables and then the number after the equal.
The first line would be:

speed, and it reduces clutter on your paper. Theres no need to write out x, y, and z every time, since all your really messing with are the coefficients.

In a sense, what you are doing is elimination, just without writing down the variables over and over.

that makes sense... so all you really need to make sure you do is get them all in the same variable order?
