solve the polynomial equation x^3-14x^2+47x=18=0

=18=0?

One method is to find one factor by trial and error, and then you could use the quadratic equation to find the other two. How would you go about finding the first factor?

im not sure

it cant be solved as it is - i assume its either +18 or -18

You could try to find it by trial and error. If you put in a number for x, do the maths, and get the answer 0, it means that the number you tried is a root of the expression. The corresponding factor for that would be \((x - ?)\) where ? is the root.
