My question asks me to write a solution in interval notation - if I have (x-4)(x-3i)(x+3i)(x+4)>0 is there a way to express the complex numbers in interval notation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not really, I'm guessing you are not expected to consider the complex solutions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not sure.. as I told you before it is diferent. You're no longer in |R, you're in |C with complex notation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's right u would have to have two different sets of intervals and the meaning is completely different.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK - thanks so much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Anyway, consider only the real numbers to do the interval. x>4 or x< -4

OpenStudy (zarkon):

the complex numbers are not an ordered field therefore < and > have no meaning
