Problem is attached in the picture.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have no idea.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im kind of confused. can you break it down

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it says that y is the number of gun deaths given a value for x...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if x = 1... you do the math and that will be the number of gun deaths during 2001

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if x = 2 thats the # of deaths by projectile in 2002

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they want to know what year 12,937 deaths occur

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So being that y is always the number of deaths... you can put it in and see what x is equal to...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this problem crazy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you solve: 12,937 = -1777x +27,153 you should get x = 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so for the first one, put in x = 5 (I hope you have a calc.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's the number of deaths in 2005

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1777(5) + 27,153 = number of deaths in 2005

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1777(7) + 27,153 = the number of deaths in 2007

OpenStudy (anonymous):

soo there were 18268 in 2005? and 14714 in 2007?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12,937= 1777(x) + 27,153 solve for x and you have the number of years after 2000 (or before if neg) that 12,937 deaths wend down.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

leme chk your ans.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea and...yea, those are right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mk now .. hmmm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I forgot to put the neg in front of the 1777 up there in the x equation... my bad

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats good , im trying to figure it out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(12,937 - 27,153)/-1777 = 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be 2008?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nice... yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay!
