Simply put, ribosomes are proteins in our cells (outside the nucleus) that can read mRNA. (mRNA is pretty much a copy of a piece of DNA in the nucleus, because DNA cannot leave the nucleus) Ribosomes "read" the mRNA and create proteins based on the "mRNA blueprint." In other words, ribosomes translate mRNA in order for gene expression to occur. This is a very simplified explanation of what ribosomes are and do. F

ribosomes are tiny, round organelles found floating in the cytoplasm or attached to the endoplasmic reticulum . they produce proteins which the cell uses for growth, repair and control.
