3x^2-12x+15... i completely forgot how to do these over the summer
I assuming you are factoring?
correct
factor out a 3 first 3(x^2-4x+5) And that is about all you can do lol
for real? haha, i'm over thinking. gracias
well unless your teacher wants you to use imaginary numbers.. But I dont see that happening
no i dont think so. how about with cubes? like x^3+8^2-20x ?
well 8^2 is 64 x^3-20x+64 And I am pretty sure thats in factored form already
well my teacher wants it in ( ) ( ) ( ) form i believe
if you have a equation like a^n+bx+c and C is bigger than your B; and B is negative you cant factor into two equations with real numbers
i shouldnt have thrown all of my notes away.. haha
are yous rue you are copying down the problems correctly?
sure*
yeah, positive. she wants it factored by grouping, such as x^3+2x^2-3x-6 factored would then be (x^2-3)(x+2
yea that one is correct, but the two you have asked you can't factor further then what I showed unless you use imaginary numbers
ooooook, i see what your saying now. *lightbulb* haha
lol :P
thenhow about this one 4y^2-16y+15
(2y-3)(2y-5)
I find it easier to look at your last two numbers fist... in this case -16 and 15 you know the numbers have to multiply to be 15 and are going to add to a negative number so your option are -1 and - 15 and -3 and -5 since you have 4y^2 it wont be -1 and -15 so you can toss that out.. then you try -3 and -5 with different variation of 4y^2 which will either be 2y * 2y or 4y* y..which leaves you with (4y-3)(y-5) or (2y-3)(2y-5) then you just foil and see which one gives you what you wnat. There are easier ways to figure it out but I have always done it by trial and error of something doesn't immediately pop out at me
