A gallon of water is added to 6 quarts of a solution that is 50% acid. What % of the new solution is acid?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 gallon = 4 quarts Initially, you have 50% acid of 6 quarts. That means 3 quarts are acid. But, after you add your gallon (4 quarts), you now have a total of 10 quarts. You still only have 3 quarts of acid out of these 10. To find the percent acid of this new solution, divide your acid by your total. 3/10 x 100% = 30%

you have 50% of 6 = 3 quarts of acid to begin with. now you have 1 gallon = 4 quarts more for a total of ten quarts. oh... what h.allix said exactly
