Transfer of neural impulses happens through ion-exchange processes. How do these register on a ECG ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The ion exchange changes the polarity of the cell and once it passes its threshold value the impulse travels along the cell through further ion exchange. we see this as an electrical impulse along the nerve which we can pick up on the ECG, though im fairly sure its EMG tot ECG, that is cardiovascular/heart not with the nerves

BS.. yup! but, then ion exchange isnt electrical , is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No but the ions are, inside the nerve we have a strong negative center, when the positive ions like NA+ and K+ are pumped in to the cell the negative state changes from -70mV to +30mV and we have an action potential or nervous impulse
