since like terms over one another = 1: 3/3, 25/25, (x-1)/(x-1) ; it resembles a "cancelation". But you are simplifying to "1" and ignoring it since its redundant

Cancelling in fractions is the process of finding factors of 1 that are hiding in your expression. Cancelling in sums is finding 0 terms that are hiding in your expression.
