If Steven can mix 20 drinks in 5 minutes, Sue can mix 20 drinks in 10 minutes, and Jack can mix 20 drinks in 15 minutes, how much time will it take all 3 of them working together to mix the 20 drinks? Same kind of question, I still don't really understand the solving steps though.

maybe it would be easier if you break it down to how many drinks each make in a minute. that is not the snap way to do it but it might make more sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

steve makes 4 a minute, sue makes 2 a minute and jacob makes 4/3 a minute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, makes sense so far. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

together they make \[7\tfrac{1}{3}=\frac{22}{3}\] per minute. you want \[\frac{22}{3}t = 20\] \[t=\frac{20\times 3}{22}\] \[t=\frac{30}{11}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are other ways, but this might help it make some sense. maybe?

That works! I get it now. Thanks!
