1/6 -x/2 = x-5/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bring the -(5/3) over to the other side as a positive. and bring the -(x/2) to the other side as a positive.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then it would be... (1/6)+(5/3) = x + (x/2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now add the fractions together...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

adding the fractions on the left side by finding an LCD they get... 11/6 = x + (x/2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now do the left side finding an LCD they get... 11/6 = (3x/2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and thats also 11/6 =9x/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

both sides of the equation now have a common denomonator so they cancle and you have... 11 = 9x dividing by 9 you get 11/9 = x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i have not taken a math class in 6 years

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I meant to say "right side" up there... on the second step... opps.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6 years? ouch. GL make sure you can manipulate fractions like cooking toast.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i cant remember how to do any algebra
