Select one of the factors of x3 + 3x2 + 7x + 21.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x^2+7)(x+3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello joe i have a question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Using the rational roots theorem, if you have a rational root, it must be a divisor of 21. Then by inspection, -3 would be one of those roots.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes satellite?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is there some general disagreement that i don't know about that says arcsine, arccosine etc are not functions and can have more than one value?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We force them to be functions by limiting their range.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you dont limit the range, then i guess they wouldnt be functions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to me a function is a function. one input, one output. but look at this question. it seems to suggest that arccsc is not a function. at first i just said the last one because it was the only one with one number, but it is wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then i thought "another idiot math teacher" but she says it is an on line quiz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the question is just worded poorly. If it wants multiple answers, it should be phrased like: "What angles give csc(theta) a value of sqrt(2), theta from 0 to 2pi?"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it also depends on how the teacher is defining the functions. Most ive seen will limit the range (which is proper), but ive seen a few cases where they dont.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well fine but that is not what it says. it does not say "find a formula for all numbers whose cosecant is whatever. it says "find cosecant of something" i feel another rant coming on so i will go watch judge judy and chill out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just thought i would ask you in case i was losing my mind again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LOL, yeah, it isnt the correct way of doing things. But these kids are in Rome. And when in Rome, do as the Romans do.
