what are the basic terms used to indicate logical alternatives. For example: converse, contrapositive, negation.
You mean symbols?
symbols I pretty much undertand ... maybe :) im thinking more of terminology and examples such as: p -> q , the contrapositive is; -q -> -p
Like rules of inference..?
Implication, contraposition, equivalence etc...
those sound about right, the 1st chapter in my discrete math text is on logic and building truth tables and contorting ps and qs ...
truth tables are fun
Implication, contraposition, equivalence Simplification, combining,Addition, conjunction disjunction, transitivity Think that's all of them..
does anyone recall the "pedmas" of logic symbols?
What's that? For a well formed formula?
order of operations .... i believe
and before or
ABC + CDE
Oh, here, I just got this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rules_of_inference
i believe it goes: 1. - , negation 2. n , and (akin to multiplication) 3. u , or (akin to addition) 4. -> , conditional 5. <->, biconditional
Couple more on there...
Meaning u are supposed to rewrite an expression following that order..?
Everybody uses brackets..
I think he meant A or B and C (A or B) and C or A or(B and C)
Those are rules of Boolean algebra
Commutative, Associative, Distributive etc.
Anyway, brackets just like normal math is better..

truth tables are fun????
Heh..:-)
why not?
riding a bike is fun. going out with women is fun. skiing i hear is fun. also scuba diving. i even think crosswords are fun. but truth tables????
u missed soduko
i used to think they were fun but there is a certain sameness to them after a while so i got bored and stopped
