y=6x-11 -2x - 3y = -7 solve systems of equations by substitution. please give me the step and tips, etc. i am new at this.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So for your y-value sub in 6x-11and solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and don't forget parentheses and distributive law. you know \[y=6x-11\] so the second equation is \[-2x-3(6x-11)=-7\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what zbay said, replace y by 6x - 11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now solve for x via \[-2x-18x+33=-7\] \[-20x=-40\] \[x=2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

replace x by 2 to get \[y=6\times 2-11\] \[y=12-11=1\]

great answer!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks for all your help, but i have a question. how did you get -20x = -40? haha sorry but i got lost there. did you subtract 33 and -7?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you get that by combining like terms to simplify both sides before you divide to get x by it's self

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh okay.. i see.. thank you so much!~

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is (2,1) right?
