a force of 60lb is used to push a 150lb crate 10 m across a level warehouse floor. a. how much work is done? b.what is tge change in the crates potential energy?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a) We know that work is a measure of force (F) over a distance (d) or W=F(d) Also, 1N=.22481 lb of force so the Force in N used to push the crate is 60/.22481=266.892N so: W=Fd \[W=266.892N \times10m=2668.92J\] b) Potential energy, for the sake of simplicity, and likely all you'll need for a kinetics course is U=mgh, where h is the height of the object. Since the height doesn't change, we're left with \[∆U=mgh-mgh=0\] Since the height of the object never changes, there is no change in potential energy.
