Why was james the second replace by william, the dutch husband of mary, the daughter of james the second?

James II's predecesor was a protestant king who yielded a great deal of power to the english parliament. James II, however, was a catholic who believed that a monarch should have absolute power. For this reason, he largely ignored parliament. In order to maintain the power that they had previously held, and keep a protestant as king, parliament elected to ask William and Mary of Orange to raise an army to remove James II from power on the condition that they recognized Parliaments supremacy and signed a Bill of rights guaranteeing this supremacy. When William and Mary landed in England, James II fled to France. This relatively bloodless event, known as the glorious revolution, established, for the first time in modern history, the power of an electoral body over a monarch. It also created the first written Bill of Rights, a document which has formed the basis for all Bills of Rights to this day. In short, it is because parliament was unhappy with James II religion and governing style that he was replaced by William and Mary of Orange.
