OpenStudy (brittany):

Factor this polynomial completely. If it will not factor, type PRIME. x^2-x-20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x =-5x +4x Not Prime for me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x-5)(x+4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-x = -5x +4x

myininaya (myininaya):

so i guess a prime polynomial means it does not factor over the integers right?

myininaya (myininaya):

because they all are factorable

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x-5)(x+4)?

myininaya (myininaya):

yes thats right i'm just understand what prime means

myininaya (myininaya):

say we get a polynomial and it isn't factorable over the integers do we say its prime because all polynomials are factorable over the complex and it doesn't which set of numbers we should be looking at so i was just curious

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i'm pretty sure it means you can factor it without having to use the complex number system

myininaya (myininaya):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

am i wrong?

myininaya (myininaya):

its says if it not factorable, then write prime but all trinomials are factorable i'm assuming they meant to say: if is not factorable over the integers, write prime
