Can someone explain the law of syllogism? I don't really understand. My friend said that you cancel words that are alike/the same....is that accurate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is a kind of logical argument in which one proposition (the conclusion) is inferred from two others

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you give an example?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if i reach school at 9 i can finish by 9:45 if i reah home by 9:45 i can finish housework by 10;30 THEREFORE: if i can reach school at 9 i can finish housework by 10:30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the first two are separate conditional statements?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes and from which i derived the conclusion statement aRc=aRb+bRc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where R is relation and a is condition 1 and b is condition 2 and c is condition 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Condition 3 is the combination of the first two. And...I need to remember that equation as well?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i just thought it would be nice to give u an equation to work with but that equation is not general for all cases

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh. Ok. Thank you :)
