What differences chiefly set American politics apart from its British counterpart?

I would say the most notable difference between the two is our institution of a constitution. We have a constitution, they do not. The UK does not have a single document written out like our constitution but instead its constitutional provisions are scattered over various Acts of Parliament, any of which can be changed by a simple majority in the Parliament. Making changes to the constitution is not nearly as simple.

Thanks Lady Kaye and coolaid , those documents are a very good starting point for me x
Politicians all over the world are motivated by money and the illusion that being elected (from some BS they promise) gives them power. US to British?, very little difference. The UK prime minister is behaving more and more like the president of a republic. And the US president is becoming more and more like a lame puppet. And if there was a big difference, it doesn't matter. It is the business bosses and the banks that have the real power over real people.
....more academic answer - the US has generally had more economic freedom. ie lower taxes, less public spending. People can keep the money they earn and do what they want with it. But arguably has more economic inequality between rich and poor. The US has less social freedom. ie stricter laws, more police. Arguably more control, so safer.
