Which of the following is not an equivalent form of the compound inequality: x - 1 < -11 or x + 12 > 11 A. x < -10 or x > -1 B. A number line with an open circle on -10, shading to the left, and an open circle on -1, shading to the right. C. x > -1 or x < -10 D. A number line with an open circle on -10, an open circle on -1, and shading in between.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Explain?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well it would be a really long explanation to go through each one...but if you draw each one...the lines go in opposite directions...which means they are compounded....D is the only one that goes to each other

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thankyouu !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hold on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i actually didn't read the initial equation...i think i'm wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just saw which one isn't a compound inequality

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the question is "Which of the following is NOT an equivalent form of the compound inequality:"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve each, get \[x<-10\] OR \[x>-1\]right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Rightt.........

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so A is correct. also B because they say the same thing, one with inequalities, one with a picture

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh also C because it says the same thing, just in a different order. i read it wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which would be the most logical?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so A, B, C are correct. only D is wrong. sorry to confuse

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think D is still the correct answer...i just got there by luck
