when talking about degrees minutes and seconds? it seems like degrees=hours. is that a correct assumption?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well you got min of angle in degrees and sec of angle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does 1 hour=1 degree?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just say they are all used to gadge angle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so there are 360 degrees in a circle and a circle is a clock (a clock has 12 hours on it) so would 1 hour=30 degrees?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, stop thinking of time. while they share the same name as what we use to measure time it's a totaly different thing we are looking at. 1 degree = aprox 3 min of angle or moa and if we look at a moa it will contain seconds of angle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minute_of_arc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well why do we convert degrees to degrees minute seconds? and we don't say anything about hours?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hour_angle had to look it up, but i guess because it's larger than a degree we don't use it as much as we would the smaller angles,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow thanks zbay i didn't think of searching hour angle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

honestly if i would have gone with my gut instinct there i would have said there wasn't such a thing. I guess because it's such a large unit of angle we don't see it used much besides in astronomy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol i was just curious because my teacher was talking about converting degree to degree minute and sec and i was wondering about the hour part

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so thanks so much
