A problem states that two selections are made “without replacement.” Explain what that means

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It means that someone grabbed a marble, pulled it out of the bag, and didn't put it back. The result is you have fewer marbles and a fewer percentage of that type of marble.

Two selections- they did it twice

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Say you're drawing cards. When you do it "without replacement", this means that you're drawing cards, but you are NOT placing them back in the deck (or pulling other cards out and placing them in the deck to replace them)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

So if you make two selections with no replacement, then the probability will change as you go from selection 1 to selection 2 (since the number of items you are drawing will change)
