Layla has allotted $76 for gifts while on vacation. She plans to buy a souvenir for her parents for $16 and spend the rest on 4 T-shirts for her friends. If x represents the price, in dollars, of a T-shirt, which inequality correctly represents the money Layla will spend on souvenirs? Answer 4x + 16 = 76 16x + 4 = 76 4x + 16 = 76 16x + 4 = 76

Does the question really say "inequality" or was that a mis-type? All of the possible answers are equaqlities. What value did they not tell you about the souvenirs?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk... thats just what the question says... help please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will help you, but I want you to understand what you're doing. Ok...they actually told you the answer to my question...they didn't tell you the price per t-shirt. So that's why they are calling it "x" Let's look at this a different way. Suppose you bought 4 magazine at $5 each and a $2 soda. How much money did you spend total?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

22

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And how did you get that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 x 5 + 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right. Your question is identical...except they didn't tell you the price per magazine but they did tell you how much you spent total.

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

yeah this is a typo 2 of them should be "<=" and the other 2 should be ">="

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its not... thats how its written

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

notice there are only 2 possible equations, yet 4 possibilities

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I had said you bought 4 magazines at x dollars each, and bought a soda for $2. And all in all, you spend $22, how would you set it up?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they have 2 put 4 Answers... but theres only 2 choices

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its the first one right?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

the $16 souvenir is a fixed cost t-shirts are variable costs, you don't know the cost

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well...yes...but dumbcow is right. there's something wrong with the choices. She can't spend more the $76 but she can spend less than or equal to $76. Fidn the one that has \[\le\]in it...

with the same terms as the first one.
