Factor by grouping. x^3+4x^2-7x-28

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

x^3+4x^2-7x-28 ... Start with the given expression (x^3+4x^2)+(-7x-28) ... Group like terms x^2(x+4)-7(x+4) ... Factor out the GCF x^2 out of the first group. Factor out the GCF -7 out of the second group (x^2-7)(x+4) ... Since we have the common term x+4, we can combine like terms So x^3+4x^2-7x-28 ... factors to (x^2-7)(x+4) In other words, \[\Large x^3+4x^2-7x-28=(x^2-7)(x+4)\]
