In the figure below, lines r and s are parallel. What is the measure of <3?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

angle 3 = 10x 10x = 4x+42 10x-4x=42 6x=42 x=42/6 x=7 angle 3 = 10x=10*7 = 70 So angle 3 is 70 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Angle 1= 162; 180-162=38; the angle of 3 must be 38

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

how did you get angle 1 to be 162?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought that was what was stated

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I don't see it anywhere. The only thing that is known is that angle 3 = 10x = 4x+42

I addressed the problem below looking at the wrong diagram from this problem ....sorry http://openstudy.com/groups/mathematics/updates/4e500d060b8b958804aa32a0
