1. What formula is used to find the theoretical probability of an event? P(event) = _______________________________________________

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This definition is for equally likely outcomes. If an experiment can produced N mutually exclusive and equally likely outcomes out of which n outcomes are favorable to the occurrence of event A, then the probability of A is denoted by P(A)=n/N. This is called the classical definition.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The so-called relative frequency definition is: If an experiment is performed N times, and event A occurs n times, then the ratio is the probability of event a approximately P(A)=n/N.

As N goes to infinity, the relative frequency definition tends towards the classical definition.
