what is the weight in (newtons) of a person who weighs 200 pounds

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just find the mass in SI system, i.e, convert the mass in pounds into kg and multiply it with 'g'. g -> acceleration due to gravity generally we take g = 9.8 meter per second squared

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 pound =0.453 592 37 kg hence 200 pound = 90.718474kg in newton the weight is 90.718* 9.8 = 889.041N

you are right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By definition, pound (lb) is a measurement of force in Standard units as well as newtons in International Metric units. Changing the units of measurement from Standard to metric is the first step (lb to kg). kg is mass (invariant due to gravity from any other body) which multiplied by the gravitational acceleration present will give the force (weight) that the mass posses to press downward due to gravity. Check the values vicky007 calculated.
